Sukhbaatar monument: one in variety

For some time in Mongolia there are two identical monuments. The monument to the leader of the Mongolian national liberation movement Damdin Sukhbaatar, created by sculptor Sonomin Choimbol in 1946, stood on the central square of Ulan Bator until 2014. Then the “restoration” of the monument was carried out, however, it was only so called. In fact, the old monument of granite crumb was replaced by an exact copy, cast from metal. Choimbol’s sculpture was supposed to be destroyed, but some of indifferent people intervened, took the old monument and re-established it, and not somewhere, but in the Delgeriin Choiriin hiid (monastery) in the somon Delgetsogt, Dundgov aimag.
