There are three versions of the origin and understanding of the name of the Russian capital — Moscow. The first, most frequently used, says that this place was always wet, and so our ancestors called it in the ancient language. The second assumes that the root word came from the language of some Russian people and means a bear. The third is similar to the second option, but the meaning of the other is a bear dwelling. Areologists proved that in the Neolithic era there were houses of hunters, fishermen, cattle breeders, etc. This area provided them with an excellent opportunity for this place because of the Moscow River, which was navigable in the summer and turned into a good icy road in winter.
The chronicles of the chronicles first mention Moscow in 1147, when Prince Yuri (George) Dolgoruky met here with his ally, Prince Svyatoslav, and organized a great feast. He liked the village located on Borovitsky Hill, on the high left bank of the river, which was suitable for founding a fort there. Thus, the city was named as a river on the orders of the prince. The symbol of the city is St. George, killed the dragon — it is interpreted as a victory over the devil — the “ancient serpent”.
Since then much time has passed, the Principality of Moscow has undergone many trials, when, in the end, it stood out among its neighbors and became a center for collecting Russian lands into a consolidated state.
