In Yakutia, in northeastern Russia, is located the coldest point of Russia — “The Cold Pole”, in which the air temperature in winter can drop below 60 degrees below zero.
Local authorities plan to use this factor for tourism development. The tourist cluster is planned to be located in three settlements — the villages of Oymyakon and Tomtor, in the village of Ust-Nera. There they intend to equip a winter resort, an active tourism center and the residence of Chyskhaan, the Yakut keeper of the world’s cold. They want to arrange the latter by analogy with the estate of the Father Frost in Veliky Ustyug.
Oymyakon is known as one of the cold poles and is included in the list of settlements with the most extreme conditions for human life. Also, according to one of the versions, the cold pole in the Northern Hemisphere is located in the Yakut area of Tomtor. In February 1933, a temperature of 67.7 degrees was recorded there. There are extraordinary beauties here — high mountains, glaciers, clean rivers, rivers that do not freeze in the fierce winter, mountain forests rich in game, where you only accidentally meet a person. One of the local attractions is the Labynkyr lake, where, according to legend, a relict monster lives. Tourists can also look at the Delkyu River — this is the only watercourse in the world that flows into two oceans at once — the Pacific and the Arctic, and have the opportunity to visit the “Yakut Stonehenge” — the Kisilyakh monument.
An active tourism center is planned in the village of Ust-Nera. The ski resort will become a new point of attraction for lovers of outdoor activities and skiing. The height of the mountains is 1,500 meters, and the season begins in October and ends in early May. At a temperature of minus 60 degrees at the top of the mountains, the temperature drops only to minus 30 degrees.
For tourists, they plan to prepare extreme tours related to overcoming the cold, mountaineering, rafting, skiing, hiking and horseback riding, hunting and fishing. Visits to sacred places, business and scientific tourism with the organization of conferences and scientific symposia dedicated to the study of the climate are also provided.
